Level 1 Low Water Advisory Now In Place For Entire Ausable Bayfield Watershed

by Bob Montgomery

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority Water Response Team has updated a Level 1 Low Water Advisory to include the entire Ausable Bayfield watershed.

The team had declared a Level 1 Low Water Advisory for the Bayfield River watershed in October. They extended the advisory to a larger area, on November 8. Nearly three successive months of dry weather has resulted in decreased groundwater levels in shallow aquifers, significant reduction of base flows in watercourses, and, in some cases, complete loss of base flows. Remembrance Day Ceremony In Goderich

by Bob Montgomery

The weather on this Remembrance Day did very little to discourage Goderich and area residents from coming out and showing their gratitude to the people who sacrificed their lives for us.

Goderich Legion Branch 109 President Randy Carroll says he's not surprised to see the Courthouse Square filled with people. He says this year, more than the last few years, there's a lot of unrest in our country and most people are concerned about what's going on in the rest of the world right now and for most of us, the meaning of remembrance is a little more top-of-mind this year.

Most Canadians are grateful to be where we are, but at the same time, concerned about some of things going on around us. Carroll says we're blessed with peace and with a beautiful country, and we can't take that for granted.

Goderich Waterfront Parking Results For The 2024 Season

by Bob Montgomery

This past year was a good one as far as generating revenue for parking at the waterfront in Goderich.

Goderich Mayor Trevor Bazinet says this year set a record for the revenue generated by the parking meters, a total of $170,000 and they still have some fines to come in from Provincial Offences.

Only visitors have to pay to park, it's free for Goderich residents and most of the visitors understand the need to charge for parking. He points out their rates are lower than anywhere else and they do offer visitors a seasons pass for $65 and they can use the waterfront as often as they want. They only charge for parking from nine in the morning until five in the evening. It's free to everyone after five.

Bazinet adds the revenue from parking helps to cover some of their costs in maintaining the waterfront.

November is Fall Prevention Month In Ontario

by Bob Montgomery

November is Fall Prevention Month in Ontario.

It's generally assumed that that applies primarily to seniors but Registered Nurse Marguerite Oberle Thomas says it applies to children and seniors, but for different reasons. She says young children are affected because they're still getting their bearings and they don't really understand danger yet, but for older adults there are a number of issues ranging from vision, hearing, medication, exercise, diet and the ability to move as surely and as confidently as they once did. She says simple things like stopping when changing direction and adjusting to the new direction before moving on can prevent a serious fall. Stairs can be another serious challenge if people don't focus and proceed with caution.

Oberle Thomas adds, there a number of other things that aren't an
