Bluewater Poised For Good Growth with $8,347,185 Provincial Grant For Wastewater Expansion

The Municipality of Bluewater will be moving forward with the expansion of the Bayfield wastewater treatment facility.
MPP Lisa Thompson presented Bluewater Mayor Paul Klopp with a cheque from the province for $8,347,185 for the wastewater treatment facility expansion project which is estimated to cost around $11.4 million. The funding comes through the Housing Enabling Water Systems Fund which was established by the provincial government to assist municipalities in developing, repairing, rehabilitating and expanding drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater systems in support of housing growth. Huron Shores Area Transit Marks Completion Of Bus Shelter Illumination Project

Huron Shores Area Transit celebrated the completion of its Bus Shelter Illumination Project this past week.
Lambton Shores Mayor Doug Cook and Kettle & Stony Point First Nation Chief Kimberly Bressette joined artists Moses Lunham and Bridget George in a shared ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Points Plaza illuminated bus shelter, located at the First Nation.
The project is the first of its kind in Southwest Ontario and was made possible in part by a 25-hundred dollar grant from Lambton County’s Creative County Grant program. Huron County Historian, David Yates, Releases New Book This Week

Huron County Historian, and former high school history teacher, Dave Yates, is releasing his newest book this week.
The book is called Never Shall Their Glory Fade, and Yates explains the title is derived from one of the inscriptions on the Goderich cenotaph and refers to the names that are on that cenotaph. The Lucknow and District Kinsmen recently presented Huron County with a cheque for fifty-thousand dollars to help out with the Gibbons Street Affordable Housing Development in Goderich.

Four County Labour Market Planning Board Is Looking At Encouraging Some Retirees Back To The Work Force

The Four County Labour Market Planning Board is considering the possibility of encouraging retired people back to work.
Research Coordinator Jordan Meisel says Grey, Bruce, Huron, and Perth counties have an older population now than they have ever had in the past. She says 25% of the total population in those counties is 65-years old or older. It's also older than the provincial average at 47.8, compared to the provincial average of 41.8, and that has a significant impact on the Four County's work force. North Huron Council Has Approved A Motion To Turn The Operation Of The Wingham Townhall Theatre Over To A Third Party

North Huron Council approved a motion this week that will see the operation of the Wingham Townhall Theatre turned over to a third party.
At council's regular meeting on June 3rd staff was asked by council to prepare a report regarding the potential contracting out of Wingham Town Hall Theatre operations to a third party. Bruce County Bus Service Expanding Into Huron County

A bus service that has been operating from Bruce County and going to London is now looking at expanding service further into Huron County.
Debi Wilson is the liaison officer for Onex Bus (Ontario Express Bus) and they currently run from Port Elgin to London, with stops in Goderich and Clinton. Wilson says they're hoping to go further north, into Grey County, as well as further south into Huron County by adding flag stops in Vanastra, Hensall and Exeter as well flag stops in Lucan and Elginfield. Wilson explains a flag stop is where they would stop if a passenger was there but would continue past the stop if no one was there.
Wilson says they're currently just operating three days a week, on the weekends but they hope to expand to a daily service within the next month.

Blyth Resident Presents North Huron Council With A Petition To Keep Blyth Library In Current Location

Blyth resident Kathryn Aires presented North Huron council with almost four hundred names on a petition at this week's council meeting asking that the Blyth Library be left where it is.
Aires said she would have more signatures but a lot of people weren't home. She claims the majority of Blyth residents are opposed to a proposal being considered by council to move the library from its current location on Queen Street. She adds, they're particularly opposed to one option council is looking at that would see the library moved to the second floor of the Blyth Arena.

COVID-19 Outbreak At Stratford General Hospital Is Over

A COVID-19 outbreak at the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance – Stratford General Hospital has been declared over by Huron Perth Public Health.
The outbreak had been declared on the Medicine Unit on October 16th. The Medicine Unit has been reopened to admissions and transfers. Family and caregiver presence on the Unit has also been restored. Full guidelines can be found on their website at https://www.hpha.ca/visiting.

Rural Ontario Institute Announces Launch Of 2024 Rural Change Makers Program

The Rural Ontario Institute recently completed their recruiting for the 2024 Rural Change Makers Program.
Communications and Program Manager Melanie Bidiuk says the Rural Change Makers Program is for young people between the ages of 18 and 35. They had 37 applications this year and they accepted 27. The Rural Change Makers program will equip emerging leaders throughout rural and northern Ontario with skills to mobilize community-led action on local priorities.
