Spring is right around the corner. Hopefully you remembered to turn your clocks ahead last night/this morning. We have an exciting week ahead as March break kicks off in and around Huron County. There are lots of activities happening with things like Young Canada Week at the Maitland Rec Centre, and the activities at the Huron County and Bruce County Museums, among others.

Town of Goderich Losing Money on Electric Vehicle Chargers

The town of Goderich won the Best New Event in 2023 Award at last week's Festival and Events Ontario Awards Ceremony in Niagara Falls.

Tourism and Community Development Manager Jenna Ujiye says they won the award for the Best New Event in 2023 and that event was the Goderich Salt & Harvest Festival. Huron County's Summer Company Program Now Accepting Applicants

Applications are now being accepted for Huron County's annual Summer Company program. The Summer Company helps students aged 15-29 who are looking to start their own business this summer.

Huron County Economic Development Department Business Centre Manager Brittany Wise says successful applicants will receive up to three thousand dollars in start-up funds as well as business coaching throughout the summer. Wise says this year they have spaces for

March Break at the Huron County Museum

The Huron County Museum has scheduled a full week of activities for young people during March Break from March 11th to March 15th.

Curator of Engagement and Dialogue Sinead Cox says the Museum is not normally open on Mondays through the winter, but they are for March Break. They'll actually start the week on Saturday, March 9th with the Great Maple Mania Bake-Off and Maple Market from 11:30 until 3:00.

GreenLab: Bringing the Danish Energy Park to Canada

Representatives of a company in Denmark presented a proposal for a Danish Energy Park to Central Huron Council on Monday night.

Huron County council approved the budget for 2024 at Wednesday's council meeting.

Local Physician Donates to Wingham Hospital CT Scanner Campaign

A local physician has donated to the Wingham Hospital's CT Scanner campaign.

Central Huron has Final Budget Numbers

Central Huron council has finalized their 2024 budget.

Mayor Jim Ginn says the final approval for the budget will come at the second council meeting in April and the number that will be presented to council at that meeting will be an increase of 5.18% for the Central Huron portion. When that's combined with the education and the county rate, the overall increase is 4.3%

Huron County council discussed the pros and cons of county level development charges at Wednesday's council meeting.

Huron East council is in the process of conducting a strategic plan.

Bluewater Council Passes 2024 Budget

Bluewater council adopted their 2024 budget at this week's council meeting.

Mayor Paul Klopp says in approving a budget, council carefully considers the services they provide to the community, the cost to provide those services and the impact of any tax increase on Bluewater residents. “While we’d like to see zero increase to the tax rate, that isn’t realistic with inflation and current interest rates where they are and our obligation to provide important services to our community and maintain all of the critical assets we own. I’m confident that this budget balances community asks with service delivery needs in a fair and sustainable way.”
