We would like to give a sincere thank you to everyone who has supported us in any way thus far.

Just one more thing I wanted to mention this week. There is a wedding in the Huron County News family on the week of July 1st, so operations will slow down for a few days while we celebrate. We appreciate your understanding.

The fees were last reviewed in 2021 and a coordinated fee schedule was passed which set the standardized fees across the county for 2022 to 2026. At that time, all councils across the county approved the fees with a 2% increase each year over this five-year period, with the increase occurring on January 1st of each year. There has been an average of 250 planning applications processed per year over the past 5 years.

The Executive Director Of Huron Hospice Brought County Council Up To Date On Their Capital Expansion Campaign At A Recent Meeting

by Bob Montgomery

Huron Hospice Executive Director Willy Van Klooster recently presented Huron County council with an update on their capital expansion campaign.

The expansion involves going from four beds to six beds but there are four new beds being created and two of the current four will be re-purposed for other things. Van Klooster says since the beginning when they first opened the hospice in 2018, it was always intended to be a six-bed hospice. The ministry had set a very tight timeline for them and that didn't allow them the time to raise the money they needed to do the renovations to make it a six-bed hospice. They moved in when they could and worked with a four-bed hospice and have now raised almost all of the money they need to complete the construction necessary to go to six beds

Goderich Council Approves Converting Former Church Property Into Child Care Space

by Bob Montgomery

Goderich council approved a motion at this week's council meeting that will allow a conversion of an old church property into child care space.

Goderich Mayor Trevor Bazinet says the town is desperately in need of more child care spaces and the new building will allow a centre with about 90 spaces for infants up to preschoolers. Bazinet says their current facility is at capacity so the new space will help out Goderich residents who are currently looking for day care as well as help attract new people to Goderich.

The former church was on Suncoast Drive and all they had to do to allow for the conversion to a daycare centre was amend the current bylaw. Bazinet says being able to provide spaces is a first step in addressing the shortage of day care but the next one is finding more staff for those spaces.
